A Comprehensive Guide To Melamine Impregnation Line

A two-step decorative-paper line first impregnates the paper with the selected UF-based system and meters the resin pickup, then dries it under controlled conditions. The second coater applies the selected MF surface resin, followed by final drying and controlled partial cure, cooling, inspection and cutting. UF and MF preparation, pickup, residual volatiles and cure state must be coordinated. A one-step MF process uses a different configuration; it must not be described as this two-step route.

MF means melamine-formaldehyde; UF means urea-formaldehyde. They are different thermosetting resin systems. During pressing, partially cured resin may soften and flow before final crosslinking. Fully cured resin does not undergo a second thermoplastic melting cycle. The cure schedule must follow the selected resin system and validated laminate process.
